Cakebread is a tune I wrote that has always reminded me of a musical poem. The phrases are a mix of 3, 4, and 5 bar chunks; the individual sentences similar to how waves build, arc, and crash against a shoreline. The last A has an extra two bars of tension right before the delivery of the final statement, which was inspired by some of the tunes written by my old roommate and musical partner Ethan Zabarylo. The bridge section sits mostly in the tonal centre of flat and sharp keys, which feel like lush and royal greens against the calm yellows of the C major A sections.

This tune was named after and dedicated to my friend Miles Cakebread-Kraus, of whom I enjoy the company deeply. This tune couldn’t have been possible without the support, care, love, and inspiration from my friends, family, mentors, teachers, Allah, and all the humans of the world I’ve met on my personal journey. I wish to all listeners of my work good health, spirits, and fulfilling lives.
